Jennifer Eversole & Joe Johnson Named CVCC Students of the Semester

Jennifer Eversole Joseph JohnsonCatawba Valley Community College students Jennifer Eversole and Joe Johnson were recently named Students of the Semester.

Up to eight students are nominated for this award during each academic year. Students are recognized for their academic achievements, school leadership and community involvement. They also receive gift certificates to be used in the college cafeteria and campus store.

Eversole will complete an associate in applied science degree in business administration this fall. She plans to continue her education at North Carolina A&T University in environmental engineering.

A member of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, she has maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout her entire academic career at CVCC. She serves as chapter president of SkillsUSA where she won first place in the customer service competition last year at the state level. She won second place in the nation this past summer at the St. Louis National SkillsUSA Competition.

The Catawba resident has one son and they are active members of the Favor Center Church in Hickory.

Johnson is pursuing an associate degree in business administration. Using his 25 years of experience as an ASE master automotive technician, he plans to pursue management positions in the automotive or transportation industries after graduation next spring.

Last year, he won first in the prepared speech competition at the state SkillsUSA Competition in Greensboro and competed at the SkillsUSA National Competition in Kansas City, Mo. He received two Student Government Association Awards last year in business law and business administration.

He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society and has been named to the High Honors List. He serves as CVCC chapter president of the Business Leaders of Tomorrow. He and his wife and son live in the town of Catawba.

  1. I think these are two awesome students, who have worked hard and stood out amongst there peers. I think it is neat to see the recognition given to them by CVCC. Alot of people believe you cannot get as good an education, and none of the University experience and this lays down that myth. I am a 47 year old lady beginning my education again. I start on 1-8 and will be majoring in the Criminal Justice Program. After reading this, it really gave ME a second opinion of the Community College Experience I had been anxiously awaiting. Now I am Psyched and ready to be a part of the student life out of the classroom. Thanks so much for opening my eyes and thanks for giving me much , much more to look forward to. Angela Dawn Lowe
