Catawba Valley Community College Volleyball signs Emily Horn and Madison Steed

Emily Horn, CVCC VolleyballEmily Horn of Marvin Ridge High School signed March 16th to play volleyball this fall at Catawba Valley Community College.  Present for the signing were parents Tim and Joanne Horn and her siblings, CVCC Head Coach Shannon Hudson and CVCC Assistant Coach Mark Wimberley.

In her senior year at Marvin Ridge, Emily earned 2.2 kills per set and helped lead her team to a 22-5 record and a school ranking of 22nd in the state 3A polls. 

CVCC Head Coach Shannon Hudson is excited to add Emily to the Lady Buccaneer’s line-up for the fall 2014 season.  “Emily is a great addition to our roster.  Her experience on the court and her powerful swing will be invaluable assets this fall.”

Under the direction of high school coach Brook Hammers, Emily earned the team award for Most Valuable Player, the “Teammate” award, was named All-Conference, received the “Unsung Hero” award and was named to the Union County Super Team.

Madison Steed

Madison Steed, CVCC VolleyballCatawba Valley Volleyball signed Madison Steed of Audrey Kell High School on March 17th to play this fall.  Present for the signing were parents Zelton and Laura Steed, Club Coach Ralph Viegelmann, CVCC Head Coach Shannon Hudson and CVCC Assistant Coach Mark Wimberley.

Madison played on the 2012 4A State Championship team for Audrey Kell and helped lead the 2013 squad to a 19-10 finish for the year.  Madison plays club for Carolina Storm who boasts a .700 record for the season so far.  Coach Ralph Viegelmann is excited for Madison’s signing with the Lady Bucs and comments, “Congrats to Madison for finding a perfect fit to get a great education and play for a winning program!”

Catawba Valley Coach Shannon Hudson echoes Viegelmann’s excitement.  “Madison is such an athletic player with a huge blocking presence at the net.  I am eager to see Madison continue to develop her skills as she takes her game to a new level!”

Madison will pursue an Associate in Arts degree from CVCC.
