Record Keeping & Taxes – Thursday, November 20th, 6:30 – 8:30 pm. Keeping proper records can help small business owners save time and save money. This two-hour seminar shows participants how business decisions impact their tax bill and how to keep records that will allow them to track their business’ profits while maintaining the information needed to file federal and state taxes. Participants learn which expenses can be deducted for tax purposes and walk through a record-keeping process from sales receipts to tax returns. Mel Steiner, instructor.

BASIC SKILLS CLASSES
Compensatory Education – Offered Monday – Thursday from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm. Vickie Vinson, instructor. Classroom instruction focuses on student’s individual goals and includes functional reading and writing literacy skills for personal, social and economic purposes. Students use computer technology to improve skills in self-determination, self-advocacy, problem solving and citizenship. Curriculum conforms to the domains from the N.C. Community College Program of Study. There is no cost to register.
ESL (English as a Second Language) – offered Mondays from 6:00 – 8:30 pm. This is a great class for persons where English is not the primary language spoken at home. There is no cost to register. Instructor, Beverly Olendorff.
2014 Adult Secondary Credentialing (GED) classes – Morning classes are offered on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm and evening classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 – 8:30 pm. No cost for classes, however, testing fees apply. Students 16 and 17 years of age (minors) must have met with their high school principal and counselor in order to determine eligibility. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or guardian in order to pick up GED admissions paperwork located at the CVCC Alexander Center for Education. Upon completion, students along with their parent or guardian must make an appointment with Jill Masten-Byers, GED Coordinator. Adult High School Diploma Program – for students 18 years of age or older. Classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. and Monday and Wednesday 5:30pm-8:30 pm. There is no cost for this class. A high school transcript is required for registration. More and more businesses are relying upon the Career Readiness Certification as part of their hiring requirements. Prepare for your Career Readiness Certification with us! Employability Lab – An open Lab offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 am – 12:30 pm with instructor Bruce Loyer. A Career Readiness Certification may be earned through participation in the Work Keys Assessment. Resume’ writing, on-line job search opportunities through NC Works and interview skills building is also available. No cost for unemployed, those income eligible (earning at/below $23,340) or tax exempt applicants and those seeking employment.
Pathways to Health Careers – Anyone interested in CNA I or Phlebotomy are required to take this 6 day orientation (unless the student meets specified exemptions). No cost for income eligible, unemployed or under employed persons. Contact the Center for the next available class. Next class is December 2 – 11th meeting on Tuesday, Wednesday

Medication Aide – November 12-21, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8:00am-2:30pm. Completers can apply for the NC State Competency Medication Aide exam. To register students must be listed on the NC Nurse Aide I registry in good standing.
Beginning Sewing – This class is full but call us to be placed on a waiting list!
Photography – Digital Basics – Next class, TBA. Cost $70.00.
Oil & Acrylic Painting – Wednesdays, October 29th – December 17th from 6:00pm–9:00 pm with Heather Friday, Instructor. Cost $50.00.
