Catawba Valley Community College’s Office of Multicultural Affairs will host a Celebration of Nations Sat., April 11. The festival will take place on the front CVCC lawn (U.S. Hwy. 70 in Hickory) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Sponsored by BB&T, the Celebration of Nations recognizes and celebrates all the cultures that make up the CVCC service area of Catawba and Alexander counties.
Students and members of the community are invited to dress in their native attire and inform the community about their culture through crafts, pictures, artifacts and games.
Featured entertainment includes Hickory Music Factory; Matador; Lumbee Nation Dance, Storytelling, and Flint Knapping; Irish Steppers; Mexican Dance by the Iglesia Emaculada Conception; Mohawk Nation Dance; Vocalist Juan Johnson; Arndt Middle School Steppers; St. Stephens High School Steppers; Hmong and Hip Hop Dances by Challenger Early College High School; CVCC Drama Play Production Class; and more.
SkillsUSA, in partnership with the Family Guidance Center, will be collecting donations for the Shelter for Battered Woman. Attendees are asked to donate feminine products, cleaning supplies, paper products, minority hair products, gift cards or fuel cards. All donations are greatly appreciated.
