Members of Catawba Valley Community College’s SkillsUSA chapter recently toured the college’s ValleySim Hospital.
The ValleySim Hospital, which occupies the entire fifth floor of the Cuyler A. Dunbar Bldg., on the main campus, is designed to provide students, the community and the region with a realistic healthcare setting for education and research. The largest simulated hospital of its kind on the East Coast, it is equipped with a wide variety of low- and high-fidelity programmable manikins, along with video and computer equipment.
Ty Wright, director of the SimHospital, explained to SkillsUSA chapter members how the manikins are programmed to simulate illnesses which students practice treating.
“These chapter meetings are a part of our CVCC SkillsUSA business outreach program which enables our students to learn about career opportunities in our region,” said Gary Muller, CVCC SkillsUSA Chapter Advisor and dean of the School of Business, Industry and Technology. “Our SkillsUSA program focuses on enhancing the technical skills of our students as well as providing them with leadership training opportunities.”
