Catawba Valley Community College recently announced a number of staff changes.
Brice Melton has been selected as the new Dean of the School of Academics, Education and Fine Arts.
Having served in various roles as a department head, director and as a member and leader of numerous committees, Melton brings to the position an impressive combination of leadership training, teaching, management experience and campus service. She was a member of Faculty Senate for several years, including serving as vice president and president. In 2008, she received the CVCC Excellence in Teaching Award. She is an alumnus of the Phillips Leadership Academy as well as the year-long North Carolina Community College System Leadership Program.
Melton’s appointment follows the recent retirement of Dean Kay Gregory, who worked for the college for 24 years.
Bringing many years of experience as a faculty member in the Early Childhood Education Department, Aden Cranford was appointed to serve as director beginning in August. Cranford played an instrumental role in the program’s recent national accreditation.
Krysten Buchanan was named department head for the newly formed Academic Success Department. She will be responsible for coordinating College Student Success courses, securing and training faculty to teach these classes. Buchanan will continue to serve as Coordinator of Developmental English.
Brenda Lewis was named department head for the newly formed Expanding Educational Opportunities Department. Lewis will be responsible for coordinating the Promise Scholars Initiative and collaborate with the Career and College Promise [CCP]/High School Liaison. She will continue to serve as Coordinator of Developmental Math.
