Catawba Valley Community College student Heidi Millsaps recently received the Bruce A. Blackburn Scholarship through the CVCC Foundation, Inc. The scholarship honors Blackburn’s service as chairman of the Shuford Credit Union board of directors and his passion for investment in education.
Millsaps is a 2016 graduate of Alexander Central High School and is enrolled in the Emergency Medical Science program. Her father Keith Millsaps is an EMT at Alexander Rescue Squad and EMS, Inc., and inspired her to follow in his footsteps.
To be eligible for the Blackburn Scholarship, students must possess the potential for a successful college career, exhibit a desire for academic excellence in his/her chosen field and exhibit academic achievement and financial need. The recipient must also have a grade point average of at least 2.75 at the end of the first semester in college to continue receiving the scholarship.
The Shuford Federal Credit Union was formed in 1967 as a non-profit financial co-operative owned by its members and offers a full range of financial products and services.
