CVCC Fire Protection Technology Students Receive Scholarships

Jacob Christenbury and Mark Stafford ImageCongratulations to Catawba Valley Community College students Jacob Christenbury and Mark Stafford who recently received the PJ Stanley Memorial Scholarship.

Jacob started the CVCC Fire Protection Technology through the Career & College Promise program at Bunker Hill High School last fall. He represented CVCC in the SkillsUSA Firefighting Competition in Greensboro this spring, and he is currently enrolled in the Fire Protection Technology associate degree program for the fall.

Mark has been enrolled in the Fire Protection Technology associate degree program for a few years and has a high GPA. Mark represented CVCC in the SkillsUSA Firefighting Competition at NC SkillsUSA in Greensboro spring ‘15 and became the high school advisor for firefighting this spring. Mark also serves as a student member of the CVCC Fire Protection Technology Advisory Board and is a Fire Rescue Continuing Education Instructor.

Sponsored by the City of Claremont, the PJ Stanley scholarship assists graduating high school students and community college students pursuing careers in police, EMS, rescue and firefighting fields at CVCC and Mitchell Community College. Stanley was a leader in the Claremont (NC) community and dedicated his life to making a difference through his service and to those who chose to join the ranks with him.
