Students in Catawba Valley Community College’s Respiratory Therapy program recently won the state Sputum Bowl educational competition at the annual N.C. Society for Respiratory Care State Symposium in Wilmington.
The Sputum Bowl is an educational tournament for respiratory therapy students similar to the “Jeopardy” game show. Three-member student teams compete to correctly answer questions regarding different aspects of respiratory care.
CVCC’s team advances to the national competition at the American Association for Respiratory Care’s 62nd annual International Congress in October in San Antonio. Since the late 1970’s, the Sputum Bowl has been a part of every AARC national convention.
Graduates of CVCC’s Respiratory Therapy associate degree program are prepared to perform diagnostic testing, treatment and management of patients with heart and lung diseases.
