CVCC Student Wins Photo Contest

Alicia Cocke National Student Day WinnerCatawba Valley Community College student Alicia Cocke recently won a $100 gift card in a nationwide selfie photo contest conducted by the National Association of College Stores celebrating the 6th annual National Student Day.

Cocke was one of 25 gift card winners in the National Student Day #SMILEforNSD Selfie Contest. Her participation, along with the others, helped the National Association of College Stores raise $1,200 to be given to Scholarship America’s Dream Award that helps students struggling to pay for college.

All participants took selfies in the CVCC Campus Store to be eligible. The CVCC Campus Store facilitated the competition for CVCC students and provided props.

Cocke’s $100 gift card can be used at the CVCC Campus Store to purchase books, supplies and merchandise.

A Hickory native, Cocke is enrolled in the Associate in Science and Surgical Technology degrees. One of 13 children from a blended family, Cocke is the first of her siblings to graduate high school and will be the first to earn a college degree.
