“Paper Angels” Film Screening & Foster Care System Discussion Nov. 16 at CVCC

Paper Angels Movie PosterCatawba Valley Community College’s Interdisciplinary Read Committee will host a screening Wed., Nov. 16, of the film “Paper Angels.” The film is based on the book “Paper Angels” co-authored by Jimmy Wayne and Travis Thrasher. The book was inspired by Wayne’s country song of the same name.
 
“Walk to Beautiful,” written by Wayne about growing up in the North Carolina Foster Care system, was chosen for this year’s interdisciplinary read.

CVCC Student Wins Photo Contest

Alicia Cocke National Student Day WinnerCatawba Valley Community College student Alicia Cocke recently won a $100 gift card in a nationwide selfie photo contest conducted by the National Association of College Stores celebrating the 6th annual National Student Day.

Cocke was one of 25 gift card winners in the National Student Day #SMILEforNSD Selfie Contest. Her participation, along with the others, helped the National Association of College Stores raise $1,200 to be given to Scholarship America’s Dream Award that helps students struggling to pay for college.
